Since its introduction, the Heckler has undergone a steady evolution, making a lot of friends along the way. Not wanting to alienate any of those friends, Santa Cruz worked long and hard before pulling the trigger on the latest version of everyone's favorite workhorse. They built it strong, with a 15mm diameter pivot axle and gusseted tubing, and kept it light, thanks to Heckler's 6.4 lb. frame/rear shock weight. Moreover, Santa Cruz bumped the rear travel up slightly to 150mm and designed the chassis around a 140mm-travel fork (that's able to handle 160mm) while retaining Heckler's renowned, long-legged, predictable handling. In human athletic terms, you'd find the Heckler-D AM somewhere between a marathon runner and a wrestler. Now that's one tough cookie!
