Shimano XTR M9020 Trail Black 11 Speed Double 26/36 Crankset 175mm

The Shimano XTR FC-M9020-2 2x Trail Crankset is a beefed-up version of the likewise controversial-looking but stellar-performing Race crankset. It's reinforced for the heavy-duty riding the Race version isn't, so you can romp around in the wilderness as you please and not feel on eggshells doing so. As usual, Shimano forgoes carbon fiber for crank arm construction, and instead manipulates aluminum into superior function. Using cold-forging, the XTR Trail crankset's crank arms are shaped into a stronger version of the hollow-cavity HollowTech II arms used on the Race cranks. The Trail crank's arms are still technically HollowTech II arms, although they are less hollow and more reinforced for the greater impacts and torsional forces that trail- and all-mountain-riding typically produces. The titanium teeth of the Trail crank's dual chainrings are not likewise hollow like the crank arms (as they are on the Race version), and this is to boost durability. Shift paths between the rings are computer-optimized for smooth and virtually instant shifting, however, and they still retain a similar chain-retaining tooth shape to minimize chain drop. The Trail crank's spider is the same found on all the new M9000-series XTR cranksets, and so it can accommodate any M9000 single- or double-ring combination in the series, although this particular crankset comes with the dual rings (26 and 36 tooth).
